Brief History

1954

Harold Dyer and his brother, Irvin Dyer, started their fertilizer business in 1954 as a sideline to their farming operation by building an ammonia storage plant in West Point, Iowa that allowed for them to distribute ammonia to local farmers.

There are three farm corporations owned and operated by the Harold and Greg Dyer families: Dyer Bros, Inc., Valli Land Corp, and CG Land, Inc.

1963

Purchased property in Houghton, Iowa and built a dry fertilizer blending plant incorporating it under the Chem Gro of Houghton, Inc. name.

1964

Built a fertilizer plant in Adrian, Illinois which was incorporated separately under the Chem Gro Inc. name.

1971

Built a grain elevator at the Houghton, Iowa location adding grain handling and storage to the already well established fertilizer business. In that same year, they purchased an Elevator in Illinois expanding the Adrian, Illinois business to also include grain.

1973

Valli Land Corp is located in Missouri and was purchased and incorporated.

1976

Added a small grain elevator operation in Alexandria, Missouri - primarily to handle family owned farm grain production, but was expanded to accommodate other local Missouri farmers.

1981

Chem Gro purchased the Houghton Feed Elevator and the Hillsboro Elevator expanding their grain storing capacity and locations.

1985

Irvin Dyer lost his life in a farming accident. The family companies continued to be operated and managed by Harold Dyer and his son, Greg Dyer. They ultimately completed a buyout from the Irvin Dyer family.

1988

Purchased property in Bowen, Illinois and built a new fertilizer plant and grain elevator, doubling the Illinois operation.

1990

The Salem, Iowa elevator was purchased, adding additional grain storage capacity to the Chem Gro of Houghton operation.

1999

The CG Land, Inc. also a farmland corporation located in Missouri, was spun off as a separate corporation from Chem Gro of Houghton, Inc.

2001

Purchased Tri-County Fertilizer in La Harpe, Illinois to expand the fertilizer business territory. In that same year, they purchased the Iowa Double Circle Co-op in Olds, Iowa expanding the Iowa fertilizer business territory as well.

2002

The Alexandria, Missouri facility was expanded and improved.
